The Toledo City Public School Teachers Association (TCPSTA) elected its new president and set of officers on Friday, April 4, at Media Once National High School (MONHS).
Newly elected TCPSTA president Jonathan Lei Flores of Makatol Elementary School garnered 21 votes over Kirk Caparida’s 12 votes and Ryan Laborte’s 13 votes.
Flores said in his inaugural speech that he will lead the association in realizing its dreams for the Department of Education (DepEd) Toledo City Division.
“We will be working hand in hand for the realization of our dreams in the division of Toledo City. So mao lang jud na sya, magtinabangay lang gyud ta and then kung unsa amoang pwede mabuhat for the association we will really try our best nga makahatag mig maayong pagserbisyo sa atoang mga magtutudlo sa division of Toledo City,” Flores said.
He also thanked the 46 faculty presidents of DepEd Toledo City who attended the election for the trust and support for all of the newly elected officers of TCPSTA.
“Daghan kaayong salamat sa pagsalig ug suporta namong mga bag-ong officials of the Toledo City Public School Teachers Association,” he added.
Flores will be working alongside his newly elected TCPSTA officers: Ryan Laborte of Mainggit Elementary School as vice president; Bernadith Famador of General P. Del Rosario Elementary School as secretary; Lorefe Abella of North City Central Scool as treasurer; Melchor Maravillas of Magdugo National High School as auditor; and, Marjorie Rosel of Sagay Elementary School and Marina Racaza of Pres. Sergio Osmeña Snr. National High School as the mass media officers.
They will be serving more than 1,800 teaching personnel who are members of the TCPSTA.
Outgoing TCPSTA president Khen Villanueva, now principal of MONHS, said that the election came three years late due to several reasons, including the CoViD-19 pandemic, emphasizing the need to elect new TCPSTA officers after the promotion of other members, including him.
“It was in 2019 that we, (the) officers, were elected. Nya tulo man ka-terms; 2022 humana jud unta amoang term. First, nagpandemic, na-busy ta, wala na sa hunahuna namo. Ang uban na promote og non-teaching. Upat nalng nahabilin,” Villanueva said.
