Luray II National High School successfully hosted the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) Individual Category, gathering young journalists from 50 elementary schools, two clustered secondary schools, and nine private institutions. The competition served as a platform for aspiring campus journalists to showcase their talents in various writing and reporting disciplines.

The competition encompassed seven individual categories: Editorial Writing, Science and Technology Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Column Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Cartooning, and News Writing.  Leading media practitioners shared their expertise through insightful lectures, providing invaluable guidance before the students tackled the challenges presented in the contest proper.  These same experts then served as judges, evaluating the student’s work.

Armed with fact sheets and carefully crafted topics provided by the lecturers, the student writers put their journalistic skills to the test.  The competition fostered responsible journalism and encouraged free expression, all within the traditional framework of print media.

This year’s DSPC followed the theme, “The Journalist’s Heart: Forging Truth in a Digital World,” emphasizing the role of responsible journalism in an era of digital media. Student journalists demonstrated their ability to uphold journalistic integrity and critical thinking throughout the competition.

The results of the contest will be officially released through a Division Memorandum, and an awarding ceremony is set to take place at North City Central School on February 14, 2025. The event highlighted the dedication of young writers and the commitment of schools to fostering excellence in campus journalism.

The top three winners in each category will advance to the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) in the picturesque Province of Siquijor from February 24 to 28, 2025.  This next stage promises even greater challenges and opportunities for these talented young journalists to shine.
