The Radio Broadcasting Contest of this year’s Division Schools Press Conference, held on February 8, 2025, at South City Central School, saw a record-breaking number of participants, making it the most highly attended competition through the years.
A total of 35 teams are competing for the top spot in the English and Filipino categories -25 teams representing the secondary group and 10 competing in the elementary group.
The competition started with a lecture by Christopher Mahilum, an experienced program and segment producer of ABS-CBN’s Regional TV, “Maayong Buntag Kapamilya.”
With Mahilum’s expertise, he shared the foundation of radio broadcasting, highlighting that every broadcaster should find their broadcast voice.
Rooms were provided during the scriptwriting phase, and a makeshift contest area was built in the covered court.
Just like in real radio broadcasting, participants remained unseen during the contest. The audience could only hear them from the makeshift contest area, adding an element of excitement to the competition.
Kevin Lorenzo, a news presenter from Toledo National Vocational School, shared that his team didn’t have enough time to prepare but still managed to practice at home. “I’m thankful for the experience I gained from the same contest last year,” Lorenzo said.
Unlike Kevin, who banked on his experience, Keanne Aguilar, a first-time participant from Toledo City Science High School, shared that he felt only excitement upon being chosen as one of his school’s representatives. “It’s nerve-wracking since it’s my first time,” he added.
“The coach from Bato ES hopes for his team to continue improving since it’s a young team,” shared Renan Ignacio.
The announcement of winners will be held on February 14, 2025, at North Central School.
