DepEd – RO7 installs new DepEd Toledo head

The Department of Education Region 7 (DepEd-RO7) has officially installed the new Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) of Toledo City Division in a ceremony held on Wednesday afternoon, May 3, at the Toledo City Sports Center.

Dr. Joseph Irwin A. Lagura, former SDS of DepEd Tagbilaran City in Bohol, received his reassignment order to DepEd Toledo effective April 3.

Lagura already served DepEd Toledo for almost four years prior to his successor, Dr. Orlando G. Cadano, who was also in attendance at the event.

The installation ceremony was scheduled last month but was postponed due to the series of activities that the regional office had held, including the conduct of the regional athletic meet last week in Carcar City.

“It’s a little bit late this time since the effectivity of Sir Irwin as superintendent here was April 3 but now it’s already May 3—so a month after. But it is no longer a matter of the date, what is more important is we formally installed Dr. Lagura, recognizing him as the new superintendent to Toledo City Division,” said DepEd-RO7 Director Salustiano T. Jimenez, who led the ceremony.

The City Mayor of Toledo City, Hon. Marjorie “Joie” Perales who also attended the ceremony together with the city councilors expressed in her message to continue giving their full support in all the programs and projects of DepEd.

“Today is a renewed commitment towards pushing forward our efforts for the advancement of education and innovating our methods in teaching our dear students… Now, I am joyful to welcome once again to the City of Toledo our new SDS, Dr. Joseph Irwin A. Lagura,” Honorable Perales added.

Honorable Perales also thanked Dr. Orlando G. Cadano, the outgoing SDS for the latter’s more than three-year service in the city.

Dr. Cadano, reassigned now to DepEd Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental served Toledo City during the time of the height of the pandemic and started innovations in the Division.

In his message, SDS Lagura appealed to all the teaching and nonteaching staff to be one with him, as DepEd Toledo achieves greater heights.

“Ubani ako sa atong panaw dinhi sa Toledo. Ang agenda ni Vice President Duterte mahimo lamang kun kamo mukuyog ug mosuporta for the betterment of the Toledohanon children. (Join me in our journey here in Toledo. The agenda of Vice President Duterte can only be achieved if you will join and support for the betterment of the Toledohanon children). Once again, I am appealing for your support so that we can do the MATATAG agenda for SDO Toledo,” Lagura said.

He also expressed his gratefulness to the different stakeholders of the 62 schools of Toledo City, including the LGU of Toledo City, the Federated PTA, the barangay officials, and the different companies for the support given to him and to the department.
